mink imprisoned on fur farm

Activists have released thousands of minks from fur farms across Spain in coordinated actions carried out during the night of 18th October.

More than 20,000 minks have been freed from a total of three farms in Galicia, and one in Soria, Castille and Leon. According to various media reports, the releases were first noticed when hundreds of minks were seen along a roadside in the province of La Coruña, Galicia by a driver who informed police of their presence. The minks came from three farms close to the road, and have been seen up to 10km away.

The actions in Galicia were apparently meticulously executed, using ramps to facilitate their escape, and animal food all over the floor so that they moved forward, according to one Spanish news source. The owner of one of the farms has claimed that "the raid means the ruin of 20 years of effort to achieve a quality product."

In the same week, an estimated 15,000 minks have also been freed from two fur farms in Denmark, and on 5th October, 1,000 minks were relased from a farm in Sweden, according to media reports.
